KatadataOTO – It is undeniable that the new car market in 2025 is quite sluggish. It is even claimed to have experienced a decline until the end of the year.
Even so, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) is still very hopeful that conditions will improve in 2026.
“If the economy improves, everything will. Yesterday, Mr. Purbaya said the hope is for six percent (national economic growth), of course it will go up,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo in North Jakarta, Wednesday (17/12).
He is optimistic that a market recovery is still possible. Especially if the national economic conditions show improvement.
Jongkie also hopes that new car sales in 2026 will grow. Able to reach 800 thousand units.
“Or it could be 900 thousand units, and if it can reach 1 million units, praise be to God, that is our hope,” continued Jongkie.
However, Gaikindo has not yet been able to determine the new car sales target for 2026. Because it still needs to negotiate with its members.
All views and input from members will be the basis for determining the direction of the association's policy.
As for automotive incentives next year, Gaikindo is leaving it entirely to the government. They only provide input to the government.
“We provide input so that later, in determining automotive policy, it is in line with the input we have given,” Jongkie affirmed.
According to him, Gaikindo has an interest in conveying an objective view that is not biased towards any particular group.
He emphasized that from the beginning, Gaikindo has positioned itself as a neutral association for the benefit of the national automotive industry as a whole.
Thus, it is hoped that new car sales in Indonesia in 2026 can recover and rebound.
Considering the automotive industry has a major role in economic growth and provides a real impact for the country.
As previously reported by KatadataOTO, Gaikindo held a meeting with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) yesterday.
“So, regarding automotive policy, it is being formulated together with the government. Let's just wait and see what will be created. I should be in a meeting with Mr. Agus Gumiwang (Minister of Industry) right now,” said Jongkie.
There are several matters that are the focus of Gaikindo and the Ministry of Industry at the moment. Especially the condition of the four-wheeled vehicle market.
For example, the proposed automotive incentives for 2026. Whether it will focus on the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment or other vehicles.
Indeed, Jongkie does not deny that Gaikindo needs direction from the Ministry of Industry. So that it can determine the future direction of the country's automotive industry.
