KatadataOTO – Currently, many car manufacturers are in the Indonesian market. Both those selling conventional four-wheeled vehicles and Electric Vehicles (EVs).

However, there are a number of manufacturers who have not yet joined as members of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

But it seems this association will be welcoming several new members in the near future.

“There are three (brands) being processed, right now there are 59 (members), so if these three join, it will be 62,” said Kukuh Kumara, General Secretary of Gaikindo in Jakarta, Monday (25/08).

Unfortunately, Kukuh was not yet willing to name the new brands that will soon be registered as Gaikindo members.

Including whether they are electric car manufacturers or not. Because Gaikindo is currently still undergoing a verification process.

Kukuh added that the three prospective new Gaikindo members had submitted their registration since last weekend.

“I haven't read further, because I was just told that three more wanted to register yesterday (last week),” Kukuh continued.

For your information, Gaikindo oversees a number of car manufacturers. Starting from Toyota, Daihatsu, Honda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi Motors, BYD, Denza, Hyundai and Lexus.

Then there are also BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, GWM, Aion, VinFast, Peugeot, Polytron, Subaru, DFSK, Wuling, Mazda, Neta and Nissan.

Gaikindo also oversees Ford, Chery, Jaecoo, Volkswagen, Audi, Maxus, Isuzu, Citroen, Geely, VW, Volvo, Kia, Baic, Jeep, Jetour, Morris Garage (MG), Mitsubishi Fuso, Scania, Hino and UD Trucks.

Candidates for New Gaikindo Members

It should be noted that there are new car brands that have recently entered the Indonesian market. For example, Changan Automobile, the brand from China, is part of the Indomobil group.

Still in the same group, JAC Motors also sells a number of vehicles. They are also rumored to be producing four-wheeled vehicles in the country.

Third is Aletra Mobil Nusantara, they have introduced and started selling the L8 EV to consumers in the country.

Aletra has even partnered with Handal Indonesia Motor (HMI). This manufacturer assembles all its products there.

Lastly, there is Lepas, a premium sub-brand of Chery. It first introduced itself at the GIIAS 2025 exhibition.

The brand from China has introduced their electrification line. For example, the Lepas L8, L6 to L4.
