Toyota Kijang Innova Reborn Will Get a Facelift Next Month

Although new car sales are still well below expectations, Gaikindo apparently is not yet willing to revise their target.

KatadataOTO – Sales of new cars are still far from expectations. From January to July 2025, only 453,278 four-wheeled vehicles were delivered from dealers to consumers (retail).
The figure above dropped by about 10.8 percent compared to the same period last year. This is because from January to July 2024, the level was at 508,041 units.
Meanwhile, distribution from factories to dealers from January to July 2025 also saw a significant decrease, with only 435,390 units.
In the same period in 2024, the figure reached 485,250 units, marking a decrease of 10.1 percent.
Looking at the statistics above, the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) had planned to revise the new car sales target for 2025.
However, it seems that plan has been canceled. This is because they have not held further discussions.
“Not yet (calculated), the indication is that yesterday after GIIAS 2025, the shares of several companies went up,” said Kukuh Kumara, General Secretary of Gaikindo in Jakarta, on Monday (25/08).
According to Kukuh, the number of transactions at GIIAS 2025 was still satisfactory. Therefore, Gaikindo is not yet willing to discuss revising this year's new car sales target.
Moreover, Gaikindo is currently holding GIIAS Surabaya 2025, and the event is expected to contribute significantly. This is because, according to them, East Java is one of the important markets.
“Meanwhile, if we look at the results from GIIAS yesterday, we should be optimistic. In just a few more days, the August (sales) data will come in,” said Kukuh.
He is also confident that Gaikindo members like Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi can boost new car sales. By doing so, they can meet the predetermined target.
For your information, the plan to revise the new car sales target for 2025 was mentioned by Yohannes Nangoi, Chairman of Gaikindo, after GIIAS concluded.
“I will see in July (or) August whether we will make a revision or not. But it feels like there might be a revision,” said Nangoi.
At that time, he assessed that the economic conditions in Indonesia were still very challenging. Thus, it disrupted the public's purchasing power.
Many people are reluctant to spend their money, especially on buying a new vehicle.
As a reminder, Gaikindo has set a new car sales target for 2025. They aim to sell 850 thousand four-wheeled vehicles.
The number above comes with a potential correction down to 750 thousand units. It also has the potential to increase to 900 thousand units.
