KatadataOTO – The new car market in Indonesia is very volatile. Since the beginning of the year, many obstacles have faced the domestic four-wheeled vehicle market.

This has prompted the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) to decide to revise their target.

“It has been decided (to revise the new car sales target), the projection for 2025 is now 780 thousand units,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo, to KatadataOTO today, Tuesday (02/12).

Unfortunately, Jongkie did not explain anything about the decision. Including why they chose the number above.

However, Jongkie had previously said that Gaikindo would revise the new four-wheeled vehicle sales target after the GJAW 2025 event.

“A few days ago (the revision decision was made), during GJAW 2025,” Jongkie affirmed.

For your information, as of October 2025, the new car sales figure in the country is 660,659 units on a retail basis (from dealers to consumers).

The figure above is still far from the previous target. Because some time ago, Gaikindo was determined to sell 850 thousand to 900 thousand units.

However, the figure above is considered quite difficult to achieve. Considering the performance of the domestic four-wheeled vehicle market is sluggish.

As a reminder, in the middle of the year, the new car market's performance underwent a fairly deep correction. For example, in April 2025, only 52,369 units were distributed from factories to dealers (wholesales).

It then strengthened in May 2025 to 60,847 units. However, it dropped again in June with a record of 58,338 units.

Subsequently, car wholesales tried to improve. This can be seen in July 2025, which recorded 60,878 units.

This continued in August 2025 after posting 61,777 units. It increased again in September to 62,077 units.

Finally, in October 2025, new car wholesales strengthened again. Successfully reaching the level of 74,019 units.

Based on the data above, Gaikindo decided to revise the new car sales target for 2025.

Moreover, the market and economic conditions in the country have not fully recovered. So it is quite difficult to still aim for 850 thousand to 900 thousand units by the end of the year.

New Car Sales Data for January-October 2025

  • Retail January-October 2025: 660,659 units
  • Wholesales January-October 2025: 635,844 units
