KatadataOTO – Sales of new cars in 2025 were far from optimal. The four-wheeled vehicle market experienced a slowdown.
Many parties hope the automotive industry in Indonesia can rebound, especially in the 2026 period.
Unfortunately, the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has not yet been able to determine the sales target for this year.
“We have not yet met with members to determine the sales projection for 2026,” said Jongkie D. Sugiarto, Vice Chairman of Market Development at Gaikindo, to KatadataOTO on Saturday (03/12).
According to Jongkie, Gaikindo members will gather soon. They will then discuss to determine the direction of the new car market throughout 2026.
This is important to do in order to understand the condition of four-wheeled vehicle sales in the country.
All views and input from members will be the basis for determining the direction of the association's policy.
This way, they can understand what they will face. Then determine the figures or targets to be achieved this year.
“It will be arranged later (the Gaikindo members' meeting),” Jongkie concluded.
For your information, Gaikindo reported that new car retail sales from January to November 2025 were at the level of 739,977 units.
It should be noted that the figure above is still far from the achievement in the same period in 2024. As last year recorded 807,586 units.
There was a recorded difference of about 67,609 units, or a decrease of 8.4 percent, between the achievements in 2025 and 2024.
As a reminder, Gaikindo has revised the sales target for new four-wheeled vehicles for the 2025 period.
Gaikindo is now targeting 780 thousand new cars to be sold to consumers in the country.
It should be noted that Gaikindo has also not yet provided a report on car sales for the December 2025 period.
On the other hand, Gaikindo has high hopes that the four-wheeled vehicle industry in the country can rebound.
“If the economy improves, everything will. Yesterday, Mr. Purbaya said the hope for (national economic growth) is six percent, so of course, it will go up,” said Jongkie.
He is optimistic that a market recovery remains possible, especially if the national economic conditions show improvement.
Jongkie also hopes that new car sales in 2026 will grow. Able to break the 800 thousand unit mark.
“Or it could be 900 thousand units, or even 1 million units, thank God. That is our hope,” Jongkie concluded his statement.
