KatadataOTO – Geely Auto Indonesia has finally entered the domestic market. The Chinese manufacturer immediately brought in an electric car, the EX5.

This was done to entice the domestic public. Especially since interest in EVs (Electric Vehicles) is growing.

"It is an honor for me to represent Geely Automobile Group in starting a new chapter in Indonesia," said Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Auto Corporation in Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/1).

He stated that their presence in the country aims to lead sustainable mobility innovation.

And to contribute to the economic and automotive industry development in the country.

"This is a new chapter for us as a global leader in intelligent mobility," he said.

Evin Ye further stated that Geely has partnered with PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor).

This is being done so that the Geely EX5 can be produced locally, specifically at the HIM factory in Purwakarta, West Java.

"This factory will begin operations in the second quarter of 2025. It will support the growing demand for the Geely EX5 and set a new standard for electric cars in Indonesia," Evin Ye continued.

As a reminder, the Chinese manufacturer once enlivened the Indonesian four-wheeled vehicle market in 2010.

However, this did not last long, as they left the country in 2016.

Now, Geely has decided to return and try its luck in the growing EV segment here.

Moreover, electric cars from China are currently enlivening the electric four-wheeled vehicle market in Indonesia.

Evin also explained that his party is determined to expand aggressively. For example, by establishing 100 dealers in major cities.

The plan is to start this step within the next year.

Consumers will have to be a little patient. Because IIMS 2025 will only be held from February 13-23.
