KatadataOTO – Although the electric vehicle ecosystem continues to be promoted, the government admits it is not only focusing on one technology. This is important to accelerate the achievement of Net Zero Emission which has been set by the government.

Several technologies are claimed to be under consideration for development domestically.

“Besides electric vehicles, Indonesia also sees great potential in the development of fuel cell electric vehicle technology that uses hydrogen as a raw material. So this technology offers an environmentally friendly solution with 0 emissions while also overcoming the problem of long charging times,” said Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry in Jakarta (06/05)

Not only that, he also emphasized that the development of biofuel is also continuously being carried out to accelerate the transition of vehicles to environmentally friendly technology.

“We believe that the development of this technology will accelerate the transition being made in Indonesia towards a green economy,” he added.

Not only that, he also reminded that Indonesia has a target to achieve Net Zero Emission in 2060. However, for the manufacturing industry, including automotive, it is hoped that this can be achieved sooner.

“We have set that Net Zero Emission for the manufacturing sector in Indonesia must be achieved by 2050 or 10 years faster than the national target. Automotive factories must also adapt to meet the standards,” he stressed.

It was previously reported that hydrogen technology in vehicles has begun to be introduced in Indonesia through Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer has even introduced several models such as the Mirai.

Not only that, they also inaugurated a hydrogen refueling station or Hydrogen Refueling Station in Karawang in February 2025. This facility can later be used for hydrogen cars and other industrial vehicles or equipment such as forklifts and trucks.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is also reportedly going to start building hydrogen refueling stations at several points, including the Jakarta area. The goal is to serve as a means of education and introduction to the public about environmentally friendly vehicle alternatives beyond BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle).

Thus, the public will be able to choose which technology is most suitable for their mobility.
