KatadataOTO – The trend of environmentally friendly Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) seems to be starting to be popularized by Japanese and South Korean manufacturers.

While Toyota is rumored to be introducing the Veloz Hybrid, Hyundai wants to develop an electric version of the Stargazer for the Indonesian market.

It should be noted that recently, the Hyundai Stargazer has just received an update named Cartenz.

There is a significant refresh, especially in the grille and lamp design. The thin, elongated LED bar is gone, replaced by boxier-shaped lights that are sportier and more rugged.

PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) revealed that there is still a chance for this car to be present in Hyundai's lineup of environmentally friendly vehicles in the country.

Especially considering the positive growth trend of electrification, particularly in the hybrid car segment.

“That is one of the things we are also considering,” said Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, Chief Operating Officer of PT HMID, when met on the sidelines of GIIAS 2025 in Tangerang some time ago.

The development of the Stargazer into an electric vehicle (EV) version or other powertrains, according to him, also depends on the principal.

There are several things that need to be considered, such as its suitability for the needs of the Indonesian people.

Regardless of these matters, he emphasized that the Stargazer EV has the potential to be developed domestically.

“This is related to research and development (R&D) and our cooperation with global, whether those powertrain options will be suitable for the Indonesian people,” Frans affirmed.

The Hyundai Stargazer Cartenz is currently offered with prices starting from Rp 269.9 million. Meanwhile, the sportier X type is sold for Rp 361.9 million, both with on-the-road Jakarta status.

The family car is equipped with a 1,500 cc four-cylinder Smartstream engine, claimed to produce 115 ps or the equivalent of 113 hp. Meanwhile, its peak torque is 143.8 Nm, which is channeled to the front wheels via an IVT transmission.

The latest version of the Stargazer offers more comfort for users, such as the presence of paddle shifters, a driver power seat, and ventilated seats.

Meanwhile, its audio system is supported by speakers at eight points by the Bose Premium Audio System.
