Hybrid Car Incentives Available, MG Interested in Bringing New Models This Year

KatadataOTO – Incentives for hybrid cars will officially take effect starting January 1, 2025. Unlike electric cars, the amount of assistance is relatively small at three percent.

However, this remains an attraction for several automotive brands like MG. It should be noted that MG currently only has one HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), the MG VS Hybrid.

“MG also plans to bring in new hybrid vehicles. If produced locally, they might be able to receive incentives from the government,” said He Guowei, CEO of MG Motor Indonesia, in a statement via a short message to KatadataOTO on Tuesday (31/12).

He further emphasized that the VS Hybrid is still a CBU (Completely Built Up) unit, or fully imported from Thailand. Therefore, it does not yet meet the requirements to receive hybrid car incentives.

Unfortunately, he was reluctant to elaborate on the chances of the MG VS Hybrid being locally assembled or the models that will be brought to Indonesia in 2025.

“The VS Hybrid is still imported from Thailand. It is not eligible to receive incentives from the government,” he stressed.

His party was also unwilling to discuss the possibility of the MG 3 Hybrid entering Indonesia, even though the unit was displayed at several national automotive exhibitions, including GJAW (Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week).

However, based on information we obtained at the exhibition, a salesperson revealed that the MG 3 Hybrid will be sold in 2025.

If it comes to Indonesia, the MG 3 Hybrid will likely be the first hybrid-powered hatchback. The model was already launched in Thailand in August 2024.

Already locally assembled, its price is increasingly competitive with a special price of 559,900 baht-599,900 baht or around Rp 257.2 million to Rp 276.1 million in rupiah currency. This applies to the first 1,000 customers in Thailand.

In terms of dimensions, the L x W x H of the MG 3 Hybrid is 4,113 mm x 1,797 mm x 1,502 mm with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. For a rough comparison, it is only slightly smaller than the Honda City Hatchback (4,349 mm x 1,748 mm x 1,488 mm, wheelbase 2,600 mm).

Two variants are offered to consumers, namely the SE and Trophy, using a 1,500 cc engine equipped with a 1.83 kWh NCM (Lithium Nickel Manganese) battery.
