KatadataOTO – Hyundai and General Motors have officially established a partnership to develop five models. These vehicles will later be distributed to several regions, particularly Central and South America.

Unfortunately, the two manufacturers have not yet explained the details of the collaboration. However, according to Carscoops, they will develop compact cars, crossovers, and light trucks.

In addition, they also plan to develop a mid-size pickup, a project led by General Motors.

Meanwhile, Hyundai will take control of the development of other models that can be used for ICE and hybrid cars.

If everything goes according to plan, the two companies could sell more than 800,000 vehicles annually. The manufacturers also emphasized that although the cars are developed together, each model will have different advantages according to the brand's character.

“This strategic collaboration with General Motors will help us provide added value and choice to customers in various segments. The combined scale in North and South America will increase efficiency in providing many things according to consumer desires,” said José Muñoz, CEO of Hyundai.

A similar sentiment was also expressed by Shilpan Amin, Senior Vice President of General Motors. He revealed that their collaboration will give customers more choices than before.

“We can offer more choices at competitive prices. The jointly developed vehicles demonstrate how GM and Hyundai will leverage our complementary strengths and combined scale,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, Hyundai has not yet collaborated with other car manufacturers. However, they already have a more mature electric vehicle infrastructure compared to other brands.

Not only does it have charging stations, Hyundai has also established a factory that can produce electric vehicles. In addition, they have an EV battery production facility in the Bekasi area.

In fact, the Hyundai Kona Electric currently has a Local Content Level (TKDN) of up to 80 percent, the highest compared to other electric cars.
