KatadataOTO – PT HMID (Hyundai Motors Indonesia) still has a large portfolio of electric car models marketed globally. One that has attracted considerable attention is the Creta EV, recently launched in India.

In Indonesia, Hyundai has instead chosen to introduce the latest generation Creta, complete with N Line and N Line Turbo variants. It seems there are no plans to introduce that model for their own reasons.

“In Indonesia, we already have the Kona EV, which is in a very similar segment as it's a B-segment SUV. The Creta and Kona have slight differences; the Kona's specifications are higher, and in terms of design and philosophy, it is positioned above the Creta,” said Ju Hun Lee, President Director of PT HMID in Lampung, on Thursday (6/2).

Indeed, there are differences in the model roadmaps for each country, depending on the needs and demand in each respective market.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of bringing the Creta EV to Indonesian consumers if there is high demand.

“We will continue to study it, and if we think the (demand) is sufficient for a launch in Indonesia, we will prepare the Creta EV to be present in the country,” Ju Hun Lee affirmed.

The Creta EV debuted in India on January 17, 2025, specifically at the Bharat Expo event. The price is around 2 million rupees or in the range of Rp 378.5 million when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.

The model will also be locally assembled in India and has the potential to be exported to several other countries where the conventional engine Creta is already sold.

In terms of design, the Creta EV has a look that is not much different from the latest generation Hyundai Creta brought to Indonesia. There is a new identity, namely a full-width LED bar on the fascia and an emblem positioned lower down.

The main differentiator from the conventional engine version of the Creta is, of course, the grille. This is because electric cars do not have a perforated grille, which functions to provide air circulation to the engine bay.

Two variants are offered: a version with a 42 kWh battery (390 km range) and a higher-tier model equipped with a 51.4 kWh power source, offering a range of 473 km.
