KatadataOTO –  New car sales figures seem unable to rise significantly throughout June 2025. There are several challenges faced by domestic automotive manufacturers.

Based on data KatadataOTO received from Gaikindo (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries), wholesales (distribution from factory to dealer) in June 2025 were at 57,760 units.

Compared to the achievement in May 2025, the figure dropped by 2,852 units or equivalent to 4.7 percent from 60,613 units.

However, in terms of retail or delivery from dealers to consumers, there was a slight increase of 0.6 percent from 61,339 units to 61,647 units in the sixth month of 2025.

When viewed year-on-year, wholesales in June 2024 were 74,615 units. In the same period this year, the figure dropped by 22.6 percent (16,855 units) to 57,760 units.

Meanwhile, retail sales fell by 12.3 percent (8,643 units), from 70,290 in June last year to 61,647 units in June 2025.

Overall, wholesales from January-June 2025 were 374,740 units, down 8.6 percent from the same period last year. Retail sales are also still far from the January-June 2024 achievement, only managing to reach 390,467 units.

There is still a lot of homework to be done by Gaikindo and car manufacturers in the country if they want to reach the target of 750 thousand to 900 thousand units by the end of 2025.

GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show), which will be held at the end of this month, is expected to help boost public interest in purchasing four-wheeled vehicles.

Additionally, there will be launches of several new models with predicted competitive price tags and attractive offers during the exhibition, which can add more options for people looking to make a purchase.

For more details, here we summarize the wholesales and retail sales data for new cars throughout 2025, processed from Gaikindo data.
