Latest Chery C5 and E5 Launched, Prices Drop by Around Rp 50 Million

KatadataOTO – The facelifted version of the Omoda 5 has officially launched as the Chery C5. The same rebranding also applies to its electric variant, the Omoda E5.

This time, the Omoda sub-brand name has been removed from both models, which will be known as the Chery C5 and Chery E5.

“I believe the two cars we are bringing will have all our innovations and technology. The R&D team is trying to make our consumers happy,” said Zeng Shuo, Vice President of PT CSI in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/06).

The presence of these two new models and the name change seem intended to make the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) line recognizable again.

This is because after the launch of other electrified models like the J6 and Tiggo 8 CSH, sales of both have slowed down.

On the Chery C5, the most noticeable main update is in the grille design. Its appearance is now more elegant and less flashy than the previous version.

Featuring a dynamic design, the Chery C5's identity is reinforced by arrow-shaped LED DRL (Daytime Running Light).

The Chery C5's cabin is dominated by the color black. Like most recent Chinese cars, not many control buttons are visible on the dashboard.

Control of various features can be done through the 10.25-inch head unit. However, unlike the Tiggo 8 CSH, the side mirrors can still be adjusted with buttons located on the driver's door.

The engine used is still a 1,500 cc unit, with no changes in power or torque. However, the transmission has been changed to a DCT automatic model, which is claimed to make acceleration more responsive.

Then, the rear suspension uses a multilink setup to increase passenger comfort without sacrificing vehicle stability when driven hard.

There is a new Automatic Engine Shut Off feature. The car's engine can be turned off automatically when stopped, thus saving fuel consumption.

Three driving modes are available: Eco, Normal, and Sport. They can be changed according to the driver's needs and the road conditions.

Meanwhile, for the Chery E5, there are no significant exterior changes, but the powertrain has been optimized, resulting in an increase in power, though the torque has decreased from 340 Nm to 288 Nm.
