The Lepas L8 hybrid car is slated to debut at GJAW 2025, with an estimated price of Rp 500 million and above.
KatadataOTO – Chery Group is strengthening its presence in Indonesia through the introduction of the Lepas sub-brand. Similar to what BYD did with Denza, Lepas products are said to target upper-middle-class consumers.
Among the three products brought to GIIAS 2025, namely the L4, L6, and L8, the Lepas L8 will be introduced first this coming November at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week or GJAW 2025 event.
During its debut at GIIAS 2025, the brand had not yet officially opened for orders. However, Chery has revealed its estimated price for the consideration of potential customers.
“The price (of the Lepas L8) is in the range of Rp 550 million to Rp 650 million. If it's below Rp 550 million, it's difficult,” said Zeng Shuo, President Director of PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), when met in Tangerang some time ago.
According to him, this price range is commensurate with the quality offered in the Lepas product line. For example, unique color options and windows equipped with UV protection.
Interestingly, the Lepas L8 also targets female consumers with mobility in urban areas. Zeng Shuo said that based on a survey, many potential Lepas customers are women.
“For the Lepas L8, almost 50 percent (of consumers) are women when compared to the Tiggo. For the Tiggo, 70 to 80 percent are men (male customers),” revealed Zeng Shuo.
The Chinese brand has kept the technical specification information for the Lepas L8 tightly under wraps. However, Zeng Shuo revealed that its configuration is not much different from the Tiggo 8 CSH line.
“The Lepas L8, the first model, will still use the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) platform, with an 18 kWh battery,” said Zeng Shuo.
This technology is combined with a 1,500 cc Turbo gasoline engine. Power is delivered through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
“We will give it specifications that are at least the same as the Tiggo, it has performance,” he explained.
Design, features, and color choices are the main differentiators from Chery's Tiggo series products. Indeed, the Lepas product line displayed at GIIAS 2025 was wrapped in unique colors, from orange to iridescent green.
For context, the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH is equipped with a 1,500 cc Turbo DHE engine combined with an electric motor and an 18.3 kWh battery.
This configuration allows the Tiggo 8 Hybrid to produce 342 hp and a peak torque of 525 Nm, delivered to the front wheels.
With a full gas tank and battery, its pure EV range is 90 km. Meanwhile, its claimed comprehensive driving range is 1,300 km.
