KatadataOTO – The SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) market will become more crowded in 2025 with the arrival of various models. Recently, the Japanese manufacturer, Mazda, was reported to be preparing the CX-20.

The model has the potential to become a new competitor to the Honda HR-V in the compact SUV segment. Furthermore, the CX-20 is touted as a replacement for the CX-3, which will be discontinued.

Reported by Carscoops, Thursday (06/05), the CX-20 model has been registered by Mazda and is currently in further development.

In terms of design, the CX-20 will adopt the Kodo concept as has been applied to the CX-60 and CX-90.

Based on leaked images revealed in Thailand, the appearance of the suspected CX-20 has a minimalist and elegant design, using a large grille characteristic of Mazda's SUV lineup.

Just like its predecessor, the CX-3, Mazda's newest model will still use front-wheel drive or FWD (Front Wheel Drive).

However, it is believed that Mazda is preparing an AWD (All Wheel Drive) version for consumers.

The interior, especially the second-row passenger seats, is believed to be more comfortable than the CX-3.

The CX-3 is said to have received a lot of feedback from consumers because its rear cabin is not spacious and the trunk space is very limited.

Speaking of the powertrain, it is strongly suspected that the CX-20 will be available in a mild hybrid or MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) option to follow Mazda's electrification plans.

The hybrid technology in the Mazda CX-20 will be paired with a 1,500 cc or 2,000 cc engine.

However, there is no detailed information yet about the launch of the Mazda CX-20. If it comes to Indonesia, the CX-20 will directly compete with the Honda HR-V.

In the near future, PT HPM (Honda Prospect Motor) is even rumored to be interested in introducing a hybrid version of the HR-V.

This decision was made due to the growing HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) market in the country.

Therefore, the CX-20 also has an opportunity in Indonesia, enlivening the 5-seater hybrid SUV electrification lineup which is currently filled by several models such as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Fronx, and Haval H6 as well as the Jolion HEV.
