Pickup Truck Sales in September 2025 Increased, Surpassing 10 Thousand Units

Gaikindo sets a target for car sales to reach 850,000 units, but Mazda is pessimistic about the economic conditions.
KatadataOTO – Car sales of new cars in Indonesia have not yet fully recovered towards the end of the year. In terms of retail, or distribution from dealers to consumers, the figure has dropped by 4.2 percent.
Based on data from Gaikindo, new car retail sales in September 2025 were 63,723 units. This is a decrease from the August 2025 achievement of 66,158 units.
Meanwhile, for the January-September 2025 period, the figures were 585,917 units (wholesales) and 561,819 units (retail).
There are three months left to chase Gaikindo's target of 850 thousand units. However, with a difference of around 260 thousand units, the assumption is that more than 71 thousand new cars need to be sold each month until December.
This is a difficult task because throughout 2025, new car sales have tended to be around the 60 thousand unit mark.
Gaikindo's target has also drawn opinions from domestic brands, including Mazda.
“It will likely be around this (car sales will remain steady). Maybe the market is at around 780 thousand (units), 750 thousand to 780 thousand,” said Ricky Thyo, Chief Operating Officer of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) in Jakarta, recently.
To date, Ricky admits he cannot yet clearly see the automotive market projection for next year.
However, if the weakening of purchasing power and the economy continues, car sales figures until the first quarter of next year are believed not to be much different from 2025.
“Perhaps if the situation remains the same until Q1, but after that, maybe we will be better,” said Ricky.
Speaking of Mazda's own sales, Ricky did not deny that target changes were made according to market conditions.
“This year, we will likely land at 3,200 (units), lower than last year,” said Ricky.
Mazda previously targeted their sales figures to reach 4,800 units. Meanwhile, in 2024, their wholesales figures reached 3,737 units.
However, a revision was eventually made to adjust to the economic conditions and the automotive market, which is still facing challenges.
Mazda added that consumers in the premium segment are also postponing vehicle purchases for several reasons.
Although the correction is not as deep as car sales in the lower-middle segment, the change was still felt and ultimately led Mazda to revise its target.
