KatadataOTO – Mazda is one of the Japanese manufacturers committed to investing in Indonesia by establishing a factory. It is known that they are investing around IDR 400 billion.

There is no definite information regarding the location, but it is suspected to be in the West Java area. Still in the construction phase, Mazda is reluctant to disclose an estimate of when the factory will start operating.

“It's progressing, there are many interconnected factors (in the factory construction process). We are hoping for good and smooth weather, if everything goes smoothly it can certainly be faster (to operate),” said Pramita Sari, Marketing and Communications General Manager of PT EMI in South Jakarta, Wednesday (22/1).

She emphasized that Mazda is very serious about investing in Indonesia in order to locally assemble some of their products in the country.

However, the process is indeed long because the factory construction is claimed to be starting from scratch. Mazda will not use facilities belonging to other parties.

As done by several Chinese manufacturers. A number of well-known brands that do not yet have a factory locally assemble their vehicles at the PT HIM (Handal Indonesia Motor) assembly facility.

“All the teams are also working to get everything done. Our team is truly very serious,” Pramita affirmed.

Speaking of locally assembled models, Mazda once revealed that the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) will be one of the models to have CKD (Completely Knocked Down) status. Although the product was not explained in more detail.

It should be noted that the majority of Mazda cars in the domestic market are in the SUV segment, such as the CX-30, CX-60, and the newest Mazda CX-80.

The Mazda CX-80 itself has just been launched, with two variants, namely Elite and Kuro. Mazda's first PHEV is targeting consumers in the premium segment with a price of IDR 1.19 billion.

PT EMI itself is confident that the PHEV will be in demand by consumers because it has a number of advantages such as fuel efficiency.

Because it doesn't just rely on a conventional engine, the PHEV has an EV (Electric Vehicle) mode where the car's power is supplied by the battery and electric motor.

Without the assistance of the gasoline engine, the Mazda CX-80 is claimed to be able to travel a distance of 60 km on a fully charged battery.

The hybrid technology in the Mazda CX-80 is combined with a 2,500 cc four-cylinder engine, producing 322 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm, delivered to all wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
