MG is expected to introduce two new models at GIIAS 2025 for Indonesian consumers, namely the MG S5 EV and MG 3 Hybrid.
KatadataOTO – MG will once again participate in the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2025 automotive exhibition. The brand is rumored to be bringing its flagship lineup of environmentally friendly vehicles.
The first model is an electric-powered SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) crossover, the MG S5 EV (Electric Vehicle). In Thailand, this model will be launched as a replacement for the ZS EV.
The MG S5 EV also has the potential to be the successor to the MG ZS EV in Indonesia. However, there is no information from MG Indonesia regarding the fate of the ZS EV in the country if the S5 EV is introduced.
For your information, the MG S5 EV is built on the same platform as the MG 4 EV. The main difference lies in its design language.
The S5 EV tends to be simple, while the MG 4 EV has a sportier feel with sharp angles on several sides of the body, plus the use of a black spoiler at the rear.
Regarding the price, the MG S5 EV in Thailand is planned to be sold for 719,900 baht-899,900 baht. This is equivalent to Rp 360.6 million to Rp 450.8 million in rupiah.
In Indonesia, the MG S5 EV has the potential to become a new challenger to the BYD Atto 3 and Chery E5 electric cars.
Then, the MG 3 Hybrid will potentially go on sale at the GIIAS 2025 exhibition. Previously, this model was showcased to the public at the GJAW (Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week) 2024 event.
At that time, the MG 3 Hybrid was presented only as an introduction. Towards the end of the year, an MG representative signaled that this model would officially launch in the country in 2025.
“MG also plans to bring a new hybrid vehicle. If it can be produced locally, it might receive incentives from the government,” said Norman Christian Nababan, PT & Brand Communications Manager of MG Motor Indonesia to KatadataOTO some time ago.
The MG 3 Hybrid is also part of MG's portfolio in Thailand. There, this hybrid technology hatchback is already locally assembled with a starting price of 559,900 baht or around Rp 257.2 million.
The MG 3 Hybrid uses a 1,500 cc engine equipped with hybrid technology and a 1.83 kWh NCM battery.
This configuration is claimed to allow the MG 3 Hybrid to produce 260 hp and accelerate from 0-100 km/h in eight seconds.
If it comes to Indonesia, the MG 3 Hybrid will be the first hybrid hatchback in the country. There are no competitors with a similar model in its class yet.
