KatadataOTO – Toyota and Daihatsu have officially issued a recall for four of their vehicle models: Raize, Rocky, Agya, and Ayla. The decision was made due to a potential defect found in the braking system.

Despite initially covering it up, both companies have finally announced the number of vehicles affected by the potential defect.

“For the Toyota Agya AT 1,200 cc produced from July 2022 to July 2024, the number is around 20,390 units. Meanwhile, for the Raize 1,200 cc made from June 2021 to July 2024, it is 11,805 units,” said Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of Toyota Astra Motor.

As for Daihatsu, the number of units that must be recalled reaches 15,737 units. Of that total, the Daihatsu Rocky dominates.

“For the Rocky 1,200 cc, there are 11,907 affected units, while the other 3,820 units are the Ayla,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing Director and Corporate Communication Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor.

She also claimed that to date, she has not received any reports of accidents in Indonesia caused by this potential defect.

This brings the total to 47,932 vehicle units that must be brought in for repairs.

It was previously reported that Toyota and Daihatsu issued a recall for the Raize, Rocky, Agya, and Ayla. These cars are requested to be brought to official service centers for an inspection and reprogramming of the Engine ECU software.

This is because Toyota and Daihatsu found a potential malfunction that may occur, such as the brake pedal feeling heavier and harder than usual. As a result, the braking distance becomes longer than it should be, potentially causing an accident.

In the statement, it was explained that the electronic ECU component controls various systems in the vehicle, including the brake booster which regulates braking performance for optimal driving.

The inspection and repair can be availed by customers at no charge whatsoever. Meanwhile, the estimated work time is about one hour, with no component replacement needed.

The manufacturer will also actively inform customers about this program through various communication channels, including contacting customers directly by phone.
