KatadataOTO – Daihatsu recall Rocky and Ayla due to a potential product issue in the braking system that could affect vehicle performance and driving safety. This measure is being taken for several models from specific production periods.

Recall affects the Daihatsu Rocky 1.2 CVT produced from June 2021 – July 2024 and the Ayla 1.2 CVT produced from March 2023–July 2024. These vehicles are requested to be brought to an authorized workshop for an inspection and reprogramming of the Engine ECU software.

This measure is taken to eliminate a potential malfunction that may occur, such as the brake pedal feeling heavier and harder than usual. As a result, the braking distance becomes longer than it should be, potentially leading to an accident.

As an electronic component, the ECU controls various systems in the vehicle, including the brake booster which regulates braking performance for optimal operation while driving.

“Daihatsu apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this information,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing Director and Corporate Communication Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor in a press release (04/03).

She also explained that the service will be performed free of charge with an estimated work time of about one hour, without requiring any component replacement.

“We are committed to providing customer satisfaction throughout the vehicle ownership period by inviting Daihatsu Rocky and Ayla customers who are on the program list to have their ECU inspected and reprogrammed at an authorized workshop,” she added.

The manufacturer will also actively inform customers about this program through various communication channels, including contacting customers directly by phone.

They also recommend that customers whose cars are on the program list book a service appointment in advance. This is expected to maximize the handling process as it will be scheduled, and customers will not have to wait too long.

KatadataOTO has contacted Daihatsu to inquire about the number of affected units and the duration of the program. However, as of the time of this report, the Japanese manufacturer has not yet responded.
