KatadataOTO – The electric car Toyota bZ3X right-hand drive version was recently launched for the Hong Kong market with several feature adjustments.

This Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and the Chinese manufacturer, GAC.

The Toyota bZ3X is based on one of GAC's products, the Aion V, which is already sold in Indonesia.

The model has the potential to enter the Indonesian market and expand the range of electrified vehicle options for the public.

However, when confirmed, Toyota Indonesia stated that there are several things to consider before introducing a new product.

“Yes, the (Toyota bZ3X) has entered Hong Kong. But its entire supply chain is from China,” said Bob Azam, Vice President of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) to KatadataOTO in Jakarta, on Monday (20/10).

He did not deny that Toyota will continue to introduce electrified products, ranging from hybrid to fully electric cars.

He revealed that the products Toyota brings in will prioritize the use of domestic components.

“That (Toyota bZ3X) has its entire supply chain from China. We prioritize cars whose local components are produced in Indonesia,” he emphasized.

It should be noted that the Toyota bZ3X is produced at the GAC Toyota facility located in Guangzhou.

The Toyota bZ3X is expected to be exported to other right-hand drive countries after Hong Kong, such as Japan, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Australia.

Because the chances of it being locally assembled are slim, it seems Toyota will not bring the potential Aion V twin to consumers in the country.

For your information, Toyota currently only has one electric car model in the country, namely the bZ4X.

Since its launch, the Toyota bZ4X has had a Completely Built-Up (CBU) status, meaning it is fully imported from Japan.

However, in 2025, Toyota has decided to locally assemble the bZ4X, adding to their portfolio of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) vehicles in the country.

This decision is believed to lower the price of the electric car. Moreover, there is a possibility that its battery components will also be locally assembled in collaboration with CATL.

The current price of the Toyota bZ4X is listed at IDR 1.1 billion on the road in Jakarta.

“We will provide information in due time,” Bob affirmed.
