KatadataOTO – Changan still has at least seven new vehicle models for the Indonesian market until 2030. All of them will focus on new energy vehicles, including Electric Vehicles (EV) and Extended-Range Electric Vehicles, also known as EREV.

So far, Changan has not marketed a 7-seater electrification line in the global market. In Indonesia, only two models have been introduced, namely the Changan Lumin and Deepal S07. Both have a 5-seater configuration.

However, Changan has expressed its interest in introducing a 7-seater model, which is in high demand in Indonesia.

“In the next three years, we will introduce more new models, including a 7-seater,” said Zhou Qing, Vice President of Changan SEA Business Unit in Jakarta, some time ago.

Qing did not elaborate on the 7-seater model. There is a possibility that Changan will develop a new three-row electrification product specifically for the Asian market, including Indonesia.

This is because he emphasized vehicle development at Changan's Asia Pacific Research and Development (R&D) center, which is set to be built in 2027.

“Regarding production and localization, we will work fully to combine R&D development in the Asia Pacific,” Qing affirmed.

Assessing Changan's 7-Seater Model Candidates

At the Changan brand launch event in Indonesia, the Chinese manufacturer brought several of its flagship vehicles.

One model that attracted considerable attention was the Changan Nevo Q07. This product falls into the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment with quite large dimensions, but it has a five-passenger capacity.

Its length is 4,837 mm, width is 1,920 mm, and height is 1,690 mm. As a rough comparison, its size is not much different from the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, which can accommodate seven passengers with L x W x H dimensions of 4,725 mm x 1,860 mm x 1,705 mm.

The unit displayed in Jakarta at that time was still left-hand drive. If marketed in Indonesia, the Changan Nevo Q07 will certainly receive several adjustments, including placing the steering wheel on the right side.

The seven-passenger version of the Changan Nevo Q07 would be a new challenger to the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH in the country.

The main difference lies in the technology. While the Tiggo 8 CSH is a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the Changan Nevo Q07 is an EREV that has a larger battery capacity.
