KatadataOTO – A series of Chinese automotive brands have flocked to launch competitively priced cars during GIIAS 2025

Some of them have even lowered the selling price of their cars, both at the GIIAS 2025 exhibition and for the future.

BYD's Atto 1 was in the spotlight for introducing an electric car with a price of around Rp 195 million. This figure is said to be approaching the price of a low-cost green car (LCGC).

Price wars can certainly have a positive impact on consumers. But from the manufacturer's perspective, this phenomenon is believed to be detrimental if it continues for a long period.

In response to this, the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) as the exhibition organizer, has spoken out.

“We at Gaikindo never control prices,” said Yohannes Nangoi, Chairman of Gaikindo, when met in Tangerang on Saturday (02/08).

He emphasized that vehicle pricing policies are entirely under the control of the automotive players.

However, he did not deny that there would be negative effects felt by consumers, especially if this price competition continues.

“(Consumers) who have already bought earlier might be disappointed. We leave that (to the brands),” he asserted.

The strategy of lowering prices seems intended to revive the public's purchasing power, which has been declining.

However, Gaikindo revealed that during GIIAS, there is a possibility of a decrease in sales figures.

“My feeling is that (car sales) are down a little. But this exhibition is not primarily for selling, but for communicating the latest technologies and newest models to car-loving communities,” Nangoi emphasized.

However, thanks to the presence of various new models and concept vehicles at the exhibition, the number of visitors to GIIAS 2025 is considered to have increased.

However, he was still reluctant to specify the exact number of visitors who attended up to the day before the final day of GIIAS 2025 on Saturday.

“The growth is approximately six to seven percent. We will announce the total number of attendees tomorrow night,” he said.

For your information, GIIAS 2025 ends on Sunday (03/08). The exhibition is still being held at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

There was talk of moving the exhibition location to Pantai Indah Kapuk to accommodate the growing number of brands.
