Sales Decline in Indonesia Draws Attention from Toyota Japan

Gaikindo data shows that monthly car sales in Indonesia are stagnant at around 60,000 units.
KatadataOTO – The number of car sales in Indonesia experienced a positive trend in October 2025. For the first time since March, the achievement successfully returned to the 70 thousand unit range.
Data from Gaikindo shows that retail car sales (distribution from dealers to consumers) were 74,720 units. Meanwhile, wholesales (distribution from factories to dealers) amounted to 74,019 units.
However, looking at the January – October 2025 period, new car sales in the country have only reached 660,659 units (retail).
Meanwhile, Gaikindo has a sales target of 900 thousand units, still a difference of 239,341 units with a two-month deadline.
Gaikindo also noted a potential target correction to 750 thousand, a figure considered by a number of manufacturers as a rational target for 2025.
In response to this, Gaikindo confirmed that the initial target of 900 thousand units is likely to be changed in the near future.
“There will be a revision after all members agree,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo to KatadataOTO, on Monday (10/11).
However, he was reluctant to comment on the rational target for new car sales throughout 2025.
Looking at the sales figures which are still stagnant in the 60 thousand-70 thousand unit range, 750 thousand units becomes a reasonable target.
If the target is revised to 750 thousand, then there is a difference of about 89 thousand vehicle units that need to be chased by the end of 2025.
The Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week automotive exhibition or GJAW 2025 is the last hope to help increase sales.
Slightly different from the GIIAS 2025 event, which served as a platform for introducing new products and concept vehicles, GJAW 2025 focuses on sales promotions.
The hope is that it will be easier for consumers to purchase new vehicles due to programs such as discounts and credit packages tailored to their ability.
Gaikindo has set a transaction target at the GJAW 2025 exhibition to exceed IDR 5.1 trillion, or last year's achievement.
More than 80 automotive brands will participate, including Toyota, Daihatsu, as well as electric car manufacturers BYD and Denza.
