Leapmotor C10 will be assembled in Malaysia by the end of 2025, and will be exported to several countries starting next year.
KatadataOTO – The Stellantis Group, which oversees several renowned brands, has chosen to produce the Leapmotor C10 in Malaysia. This model was previously known to be entering Indonesia in the near future.
The Leapmotor C10 SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) will be locally assembled in SKD (Semi Knocked-Down) form at the Stellantis assembly facility in Malaysia with a total initial investment of around 5 million euros.
“Our plan is to expand our manufacturing network through Leapmotor, then bring in the B10 before moving on to other brand branches under Stellantis,” said Isaac Yeo, Managing Director of Stellantis ASEAN, as quoted by Paultan on Monday (21/04).
It is reported that local assembly of the Leapmotor vehicle line will begin in Malaysia this year. Previously, production in Europe was carried out last year.
“The next step is to bring in more suppliers for deep localization for Leapmotor from now until 2030. By 2026 and 2027, we will likely be exporting from here (Malaysia) to other countries,” said Yeo.
The Gurun plant, which will be used for Leapmotor C10 production, is said to have a production capacity of nearly 60,000 units per year.
Its location is strategic and surrounded by the latest automotive infrastructure, making the production process efficient and vehicle distribution easier.
“We are actively developing the capacity to support EV (Electric Vehicle) assembly, and we are proud that Leapmotor is the first electric car to be assembled here,” continued Yeo.
Meanwhile in Indonesia, there is no clarity on the exact timing of the Leapmotor C10's arrival. However, it will later be managed by the Indomobil Group, just like other Stellantis brands, namely Citroen and Jeep.
Citroen electric cars are already assembled at Indomobil's assembly facility, while Jeep models will be fully imported from the United States.
For your information, the Leapmotor C10 will be present in Indonesia as a new rival to the Aion V electric car.
The model was registered by Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., Ltd., in Indonesia on September 25, 2023.
The Leapmotor C10 is equipped with a 69.9 kWh capacity battery, offering a range of 424 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
When used for urban mobility, its cruising range is claimed to be more capable, reaching 574 km.
This configuration allows the Leapmotor C10 to produce 160 kW of power (equivalent to 214.5 hp) and a peak torque of 320 Nm, delivered to the rear wheels. The unit's maximum speed reaches 170 km per hour.
