Several regions will soon end the tax option relaxation period, Suzuki says it's a challenge.
KatadataOTO – The Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) surcharge in several regions will soon be reinstated as usual. It should be noted that previously, several Regional Governments provided relief.
Some regions will begin to stop the tax amnesty or surcharge relief programs, especially at the end of June 2025.
This will have a direct impact on new car prices. Manufacturers are also preparing to raise the prices of their vehicles.
PT SIS (Suzuki Indomobil Sales), as one of the manufacturers, revealed that in July 2025, about 18 regions will re-implement the PKB surcharge levy.
‘“We hope that with the current conditions, our colleagues in those regions will be willing to review it,” said Dony Saputra, Deputy 4W Sales & Marketing Managing Director of PT SIS in Jakarta some time ago.
The hope is that the relevant regional governments can reconsider the amount or percentage of the surcharge applied.
He did not deny that the automotive market will still face challenges in terms of sales, one of which is due to the implementation of the PKB surcharge.
“So what might be quite significant is related to the surcharge issue. Will it continue (the surcharge relaxation) or will there be additional incentives from our colleagues in the regional governments,” said Dony.
Despite these challenges, Dony is optimistic that their newest product, the Suzuki Fronx, can achieve a monthly sales target of 2,000 units.
The new model is offered in hybrid and non-hybrid options and is priced starting from Rp 200 million. It is expected to add more environmentally friendly vehicle options for consumers.
To attract customer interest, all Fronx types have also been equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), namely Suzuki Safety Support.
“With conditions like these, people are certainly more cautious in making purchasing decisions. Therefore, we are providing special programs for every model we offer to consumers,” Dony affirmed.
For your information, as of June 2025, several regions are providing relaxation in the form of tax amnesties, such as Aceh, Riau, Lampung, Central Java, Bangka Belitung, to Papua.
The validity periods vary, with some ending at the end of the month and also at the end of July 2025. This not only includes exemption from surcharge fees but also fines and progressive vehicle taxes.
