KatadataOTO – The thuggery experienced by BYD continues to be discussed. A number of parties are quite disappointed that this could happen.
Even the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is willing to step in to handle the case experienced by this Chinese brand.
They stated they will communicate with BYD Indonesia to resolve the issue of disturbances from community organizations (ormas), during the factory construction process in Subang, West Java.
“Today we will try to contact our friends from BYD to see how the situation is,” said Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, to Antara on Thursday (24/04).
Nurul said that after communicating with BYD, BKPM will coordinate with the Anti-Thuggery Task Force.
They want acts of thuggery and various unsettling activities to be handled effectively.
He also revealed that BKPM has consistently stated that acts of thuggery and illegal levies are very disruptive.
Not only in terms of comfort for business people, but it will also create a bad image for Indonesia's investment climate in the eyes of the world.
“It could be picked up by anyone that Indonesia is unsafe, that Indonesia is full of thuggery,” Nurul affirmed.
Furthermore, he conveyed that in the current global economic conditions, Indonesia should increase its competitiveness.
So that it can more easily attract foreign investors to invest their money in the country.
“In the current situation, attracting investors is not easy, all countries are becoming more protective,” said Nurul.
On the other hand, previously Moeldoko, Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo), was very furious about the thuggery experienced by BYD during the factory construction process in Subang, West Java.
“Well, this is not right, I support what the Governor of West Java is doing, just eradicate it,” Moeldoko said on a different occasion.
Moeldoko stated that thuggery is truly very detrimental. Because it can disrupt investment in Indonesia.
Therefore, he regretted the actions of the community organizations that disrupted the BYD factory construction process.
Especially since the facility is touted to become the largest electric car factory in ASEAN.
“I urge that in the midst of a business climate that needs attention, we, all the people of Indonesia, must create a good investment climate,” Moeldoko concluded his statement.
