KatadataOTO – BYD Atto 1, or known as the Seagull in the global market, is touted as one of the cheapest electric cars in the world.

The model has finally been officially launched to the Indonesian public. It became a highlight at GIIAS 2025, because the price of the lowest BYD Atto 1 variant is around Rp 195 million.

Before its official launch, BYD had registered this model with a Motor Vehicle Sales Value (NJKB) in the range of Rp 200 million and above.

In more detail, two variants were offered with an NJKB of Rp 218 million and Rp 233 million, not including taxes and other fees.

However, the price of the lowest BYD Atto 1 variant is actually below that estimate at Rp 195 million. But the top variant is Rp 235 million.

In response to this, BYD revealed that there are several factors that make the BYD Atto 1's price competitive, even lower than its NJKB.

“BYD strives as much as possible to be the manufacturer of all vehicle components, including the battery, electronic management system, motor vehicle, and components,” said Luther T. Panjaitan, Head of Public and Government Relations at PT BYD Motor Indonesia in Tangerang some time ago.

The components mentioned include the wiring system up to the software used in the vehicle.

He emphasized that BYD focuses on almost the entire production of the vehicle and its components. So, many costs can be reduced, making it cheaper than other models in its class.

“When we master the production, that is the resulting price. It's the result of mastering all those components,” explained Luther.

Thanks to its price, which is comparable to a Low Cost Green Car (LCGC), the BYD Atto 1 becomes an attractive alternative for consumers who want to use an electric car for urban needs.

With its compact size and capable specifications, the BYD Atto 1 is claimed to have received a positive response from GIIAS 2025 visitors and consumers.

Facing the potential for a surge in the BYD Atto 1's purchase queue, Luther affirmed that his party is continuously working to expedite deliveries.

“The BYD Atto 1 can only be delivered starting from October onwards,” Luther stated, concluding his remarks.
