Toyota bZ3X is the result of a collaboration with the Chinese government, making it a competitively priced EV.
KatadataOTO – Toyota bZ3X was recently launched in China as a result of a collaboration with the Chinese national brand GAC, adding to the bZ or Beyond Zero series of EV (Electric Vehicle) options.
The concept is different from the bZ4X; at a glance, its posture is similar to the GAC Aion V electric car which is already marketed in Indonesia. Its dimensions are 4,600 mm x 1,875 mm x 1,645 mm.
Interestingly, this electric car is highly sought after there because it is offered at a competitive price. The lowest-end model is sold for 109,800 yuan or around Rp 236 million, while the top variant is 159,800 yuan (Rp 359.4 million).
The competitive price is possible thanks to the high use of local components in the bZ3X. For comparison, the Toyota bZ4X is sold for Rp 1.19 billion on the road in Jakarta and is still imported as a CBU (Completely Built Up).
Given that the bZ3X is a result of a collaboration with the Chinese government, it is not yet known if this model will be sold in other countries.
Responding to the presence of the bZ3X in the land of the bamboo curtain, Toyota stated that what could be considered is the opportunity for collaboration with other domestic parties to create products that meet consumer needs.
“We have the Toyota and Daihatsu collaboration. In India, there's Toyota and Suzuki, in China, BYD with GAC,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT TMMIN (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia) in Jakarta, on Tuesday (18/03).
He emphasized that Toyota is not ruling out the potential for collaboration between the T-badged brand and the government or SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises).
“We will try to map it out together later. The point is, what we can do, we will do. But don't forget, it's not just cooperation for the domestic market, but also globally,” he said.
To meet consumer needs, Toyota will take advantage of every opportunity, both regional and global, with external parties.
Speaking of the opportunity for the bZ3X to be sold in Indonesia, he emphasized that the product uses a supply chain in China. Therefore, it would be better not to import it 100 percent completely built-up.
“We have to think about that, and also study our consumers. What happens in China is not necessarily going to be successful here,” he asserted.
