KatadataOTO – Toyota recalls Yaris Cross models with production years May 2023 – November 2024. This step was taken due to the potential for suboptimal installation of the Panoramic Roof Glass.

Customers who own these models are advised to visit an authorized workshop for inspection and repair. This service can be enjoyed by customers at no charge or for free.

“We invite owners of the Toyota Yaris Cross with these production years to have their Panoramic Roof Glass inspected at the nearest authorized Toyota workshop. If repairs are needed, they will be carried out free of charge to maintain driving comfort and safety,” said Henry Tanoto, Vice President Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) in his press release.

It should be noted that the Panoramic Glass Roof with Power Sunshade is a standard feature on the Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 S HV CVT and 1.5 S HV CVT with GR Parts Aero Package types. The manufacturer even considers it an added value for the car.

On models with a panoramic roof, there is a glass primer, which is a layer or material used as a base on the glass surface before the next layer is installed.

Its function is to increase the adhesion between the glass and the panel, especially on non-porous surfaces.

However, on Yaris Cross models from certain production years, there are indications of suboptimal glass primer application during the production process. This could potentially reduce the adhesion between the Panoramic Roof Glass and the vehicle's roof panel.

As a result, there is a potential for the glass to not be sealed tightly, requiring further action.

The inspection process for the Panoramic Roof Glass is estimated to take about 1.5 hours. However, if the inspection shows that a component needs to be replaced, the handling time can take about 4 hours, depending on the vehicle's condition.

KatadataOTO has asked TAM about the number of affected units. Unfortunately, as of the time this news was written, they have not provided that data.

Besides Indonesia, the recall is also being conducted in several other countries, such as the Philippines. The number is quite large, reaching more than 5,000 affected Yaris Cross units.
