KatadataOTO – Global Toyota sales in January 2025 managed to grow after previously facing various pressures last year. Interestingly, the increase in sales occurred not only for the Toyota and Lexus brands but also for Daihatsu and Hino.
Based on official reports, Toyota and Lexus sales throughout January 2025 reached 785,632 units. That figure is up by 0.1 percent compared to a similar achievement last year.
The increase was driven by high demand from the Japanese market, which reached 126,534 units, 12.5 percent higher than in January 2024. This large figure is attributed to many new models and the resolution of vehicle certification issues.
Meanwhile, demand outside of Japan still experienced some pressure, with a decrease of 1.9 percent to only 659,098 units.
The pressure came from various directions, including plummeting markets in Thailand and Indonesia. Difficult market conditions due to the tightening of vehicle loans are considered an obstacle for manufacturers to grow.
The North American market, which has always been a major contributor to sales, also experienced pressure. Toyota was only able to sell 191,186 units, a decrease of 1.1 percent from the same period last year.
Nevertheless, the European market experienced interesting growth. Sales in Europe were recorded to have grown by 4.5 percent to 93,886 units.
Of that total, Italy was the country with the highest sales contribution, selling 11,389 units, a growth of 8.6 percent.
Meanwhile, for Daihatsu, its sales during January 2025 amounted to 52,343 units, a growth of 40.2 percent.
This high demand was due to the rapidly growing market in Japan, which reached 40,994 units. Those sales were up 102 percent compared to demand in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the market outside of Japan remained under pressure, with only 11,349 units sold, a decrease of 33.4 percent.
Next, Hino's global sales reached 8,769 units, down 5.6 percent. Although demand in Japan rose to 2,901 units, the company was under pressure outside its home country, selling only 5,868 units.
This brings total global Toyota sales for January 2025 to 846,744 units, an increase of 1.9 percent from the same period last year.
