KatadataOTO – Not only for domestic needs, VinFast has confirmed it will export its production output. This commitment is part of their global strategy to become a key player in the global electric car segment.
The Vietnamese manufacturer sees great potential in Indonesia as a right-hand drive country. The large size of the vehicle market is considered a special attraction.
“When choosing Indonesia, we certainly also considered exporting from here. Especially since there are many right-hand drive countries that can be potential markets,” said Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia (15/12).
However, he admitted that achieving this requires many considerations. Especially fulfilling domestic market demand.
“When we assess that the domestic market in Indonesia has been met, then the export market will be considered. Next month, production will also be running, so we can see approximately what volume can be shipped,” he then added.
It was previously reported that VinFast officially opened their factory in Subang, West Java. This facility stands on a 171-hectare plot of land and is planned to be built in stages.
“The first phase of construction will take 17 months and use about 10 hectares. Meanwhile, the total investment is about USD 300 million or around 4.8 trillion,” said Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia (15/12).
The VinFast factory has a capacity of 50,000 units per year. This number is claimed to be sufficient to meet the needs of the domestic market in the country.
Moreover, from January to November 2025, VinFast Indonesia recorded sales of 2,957 units. That number places them in the 15th position of best-selling car manufacturers in the country and gives them a 0.4 percent share of the total Indonesian market.
He also revealed that they will absorb around 900 workers. However, this number will be filled in stages as vehicle production begins.
“The models that will be produced here include the VF3, VF5, VF6, VF7, and later an MPV. We are aware that the potential in that segment is still very large in Indonesia,” he concluded.
