KatadataOTO – Chery offers various vehicle lines in the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) segment in Indonesia, available in various sizes and 5-seater or 7-seater options.

Currently, they do not have a 7-seater MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) line in the country. Yet, the MPV is one of the segments quite popular with consumers.

When asked about the possibility of bringing an MPV to Indonesia, Chery was still reluctant to explain in detail.

“Right now, the Chery team is trying to reach various consumers according to demand. Step by step,” said Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Automobile in West Jakarta some time ago.

He did not deny that Indonesia is a large market and its consumers have varied demands.

Yin emphasized that Chery will introduce models that can meet the needs and tastes of consumers.

“Hopefully, in the future, our other products can offer more choices to consumers,” Yin said regarding Chery's future new products.

For your information, Chery has several times expressed interest in launching an MPV for Indonesian consumers.

Since last year, the Chinese manufacturer has claimed to be conducting a study before bringing a 7-seater MPV to Indonesia.

In China, Chery once showcased a luxury MPV prototype from its sub-brand Exeed, the E08, which is touted as a potential rival to the Toyota Alphard HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle).

The difference is, the Exeed E08 is a pure electric car. This model was designed by the Exeed team in Europe and Shanghai, carrying the concept of Wind Aesthetic and One Box MPV Body.

If it enters the production line and is introduced in Indonesia, the luxury electric MPV Denza D9 will face a new competitor in the same segment.

However, it seems Chery will not be competing in the premium MPV segment yet. They are rumored to be introducing an LMPV (Low Multi Purpose Vehicle) model with a competitive price tag in the Toyota Avanza and Mitsubishi Xpander class.

Currently, they are still focused on offering SUVs to consumers. The latest is the cheapest 7-seater PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) SUV in Indonesia, the Tiggo 8 CSH (Chery Super Hybrid).

Then in 2025, the sub-brand Lepas will officially enter Indonesia. The models offered will be similar to Omoda and Tiggo, but with an elegant design and said to be targeting the younger generation.
