KatadataOTO Hyundai is preparing a newcomer to liven up its electric car lineup next month. Their newest model will be a prototype based on the compact EV (electric vehicle) Inster.

Inster previously debuted in June 2024 and is said to have received a positive response in Korea and Europe.

Named Insteroid, Hyundai shared a silhouette of a rally version of the Inster, which has been fitted with a number of body kits and additional accessories like a wing spoiler.

The rounded pixel-patterned LED headlight design is maintained as one of the hallmarks of the electric car Inster.

“The Insteroid is designed to enhance the emotional experience of using an electric car. Equipped with various fun details, there are many things to explore,” wrote the official statement from Hyundai Global, quoted on Wednesday (26/03).

In the photo shared by Hyundai, the appearance of the Hyundai Insteroid is unconventional, complemented by the use of unique, large 21-inch wheels with a transverse circle motif in the center.

The addition of a rear spoiler and diffuser also strengthens the sporty impression of the Hyundai Insteroid.

This concept car also aims to showcase the innovative vision of the Hyundai Motor design team, inspired by racing cars in video games.

“Hyundai Motor plans to reveal the full look of the Insteroid to the public in early April 2025,” reads the information from Hyundai Global.

It is not yet known if Hyundai will make changes to the powertrain of the Insteroid. However, in the standard version, two battery types are available with capacities of 42 kWh and 49 kWh.

The highest variant, the Long Range, which uses a 49 kWh battery, is claimed to be able to travel up to 355 km on a single charge.

In Indonesia, Hyundai is indeed considering bringing in and selling the Inster. The model might fill the class below the Kona.

Although both have small dimensions, the range offered by the Kona in the country is more capable, as it can reach 549 km.

For your information, PT HMID (Hyundai Motors Indonesia) plans to bring many more new models to the country.

The Insteroid has a chance of being introduced. Considering PT HMID often brings concept cars as a study step before selling a product in Indonesia.

An example is the Seven Concept at IIMS 2024. The electric car is confirmed to arrive this year under the name Ioniq 9 after being introduced to consumers.

“In the second quarter, we will introduce a new product, just wait for it. The product is good,” said Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, Chief Operating Officer of PT HMID, when met in Jakarta some time ago.
