KatadataOTO – The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has just held a meeting with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Motor Corp in Shanghai, China on Thursday (09/10).

On that occasion, they expressed several hopes for the Chinese automotive company.

"We hope this cooperation will continue by increasing the product line of environmentally friendly vehicles that suit the characteristics of Indonesian consumers," said Eko S.A Cahyanto, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry on their official website, Friday (10/10).

For your information, SAIC Motor Corp oversees several brands. Such as the Wuling, MG and Maxus brands.

The government also hopes that with their presence in the country, it can bring many positive impacts.

"Together with the global industry, Indonesia is ready to become a production and export hub for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the region," continued Eko.

The meeting also discussed Wuling's contribution in the country. Such as producing commercial electric vehicles with a TKDN of more than 40 percent.

As well as developing the Wuling Magic Battery, as part of the national EV ecosystem.

Based on the facts above, the Ministry of Industry is again encouraging Wuling, MG, and Maxus to expand their electrification lines.

It doesn't stop there; these EV products are expected to be adapted to the characteristics of consumers in Indonesia.

"The government invites SAIC to strengthen its EV export capacity to make Indonesia a production and export hub for electric vehicles in ASEAN," Eko affirmed.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Industry also requested an update on the investment plans for the Chinese electric car products.

And to provide a preview of the next electrification platform development in Indonesia. As a reminder, Wuling has marketed a number of products for consumers in the country.

For example, the Wuling Air ev, BinguoEV, Cloud EV, and Mitra EV. So consumers have many options for electric four-wheeled vehicles.

Meanwhile, MG is no less aggressive in marketing electric cars. They have already launched the MG 4 EV, MG ZS EV, and Cyberster.

Meanwhile, Maxus has only offered two electric cars in Indonesia. They are the Mifa 7 and 9.

It should be noted that SAIC has established more than 170 sales and service outlets in Indonesia.

Thanks to these various breakthroughs, the Indonesian electric car market is becoming more vibrant. The public has many EV choices.

This can encourage people to switch from conventional four-wheeled vehicles and rely on electric cars for daily activities.
