KatadataOTO – Throughout July 2025, the new motorcycle market was quite positive. This is because it managed to record a distribution from factory to dealer (wholesales) of 587,049 two-wheeled vehicles.
This figure represents an increase of up to 15.25 percent compared to June 2025. As the previous month's figure was around 509,326 units.
“Yes, this is quite encouraging,” said Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Division of the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), to KatadataOTO on Wednesday (20/08).
However, Sigit stated that new motorcycle wholesales in July 2025 experienced a decrease of 1.97 percent compared to the same period last year.
Considering that in July 2024, the two-wheeled vehicle market in the country managed to record a figure of up to 598,901 units.
Meanwhile, cumulatively from January to July 2025, 3,692,048 units have been sent from factories to dealers.
It should be noted that the figure above is down by about 2.07 percent compared to last year's achievement of 3,769,901 units.
“If you look at the four-wheeled automotive industry, its negative trend is deeper than that of motorcycles. In our opinion, amidst the pressure of purchasing power issues, being minus two percent is still okay,” he continued.
Nevertheless, Sigit mentioned that there are a number of factors why new motorcycle wholesales in July 2025 were quite positive.
Sigit gave an example that manufacturers like Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki were not excessive in giving discounts or price cuts to the public.
“Because we all understand that the industry's (condition) is tough. If we aggressively slash prices, we won't make a profit in the end,” Sigit added.
He also hopes this strategy can continue to be implemented in the near future. So that it can help the new motorcycle market become vibrant again.
Thus being able to provide a positive impact on the country. Especially in the economic sector, which is not doing well.
As a reminder, the growth of new motorcycle wholesales in July 2025 could be due to the Jakarta Fair (PRJ) event held from June 19 to July 13, 2025.
Then, the GIIAS 2025 event at ICE BSD at the end of July likely also spurred the domestic two-wheeled vehicle wholesales to become vibrant again.
AISI also hopes that new motorcycle wholesales will continue to improve until the end of the year. And then reach the target they have set.
