Minister of Industry Calls Automotive Incentives in 2026 a Necessity

Maka Motors hopes that clarity on government incentives for electric motorcycles will be decided soon.
KatadataOTO – The domestic automotive market has been experiencing a slowdown since the beginning of the year. The uncertain economic conditions are one of the causes.
The electric motorcycle segment is not much different. Unclear government incentives are worsening the situation.
Because the matter of subsidies does not only impact the industry. But is also felt by the public as potential consumers.
“The uncertainty regarding the continuation of electric motorcycle subsidies is quite counterproductive. Whether the subsidy continues or not, it is important to announce it immediately,” said Raditya Wibowo, CEO & Founder of Maka Motors in a press release quoted on Tuesday (27/05).
He said that last year's incentives proved capable of accelerating the adoption of two-wheeled environmentally friendly vehicles.
The current situation, however, is hindering the growth of the electric motorcycle market in the country.
“We really hope for a clear announcement and implementation of the subsidy by the first semester of 2025 at the latest. So that the positive momentum of electric vehicle adoption can be maintained,” said Raditya.
It was explained that many people are holding back on purchases. As a result, the EV market in particular has become sluggish.
As a reminder, in 2024, the government provided an incentive of IDR 7 million for the purchase of an electric motorcycle.
As a result, electric motorcycle sales experienced a drastic increase. Market absorption in 2024 was boosted by 11 thousand units to 63 thousand units compared to the previous year.
“We at Maka Motors believe that electric motorcycles have a bright future. With clarity, consumers can make purchasing decisions with more confidence,” Raditya then said.
Maka Motors itself is a locally-made EV and supports the TKDN (Local Content Level) regulation.
Starting from the R&D process which is fully carried out in Indonesia, their human resources are also local. Therefore, Maka Motors' products are believed to comply with government requirements.
Maka Cavalry is their first product, which was first marketed at the IIMS 2025 event.
This scooter-type vehicle is claimed to be able to travel a distance of 160 km on a single charge.
The maximum speed of this electric iron horse is claimed to reach 105 km/h. The acceleration from a standstill to 60 km/h is achieved in 4.8 seconds.
Maka Cavalry is sold for IDR 35.8 million on the road in Jakarta.
