KatadataOTO – New motorcycle sales in Indonesia are starting to show positive performance. Especially throughout February 2025.
According to data from AISI (Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association), there were 581,277 two-wheeled vehicles shipped from factories to dealers, also known as wholesales.
The figure above shows an increase of about 4.04 percent compared to February 2024 or YoY (Year on Year). In the same period, only 558,685 units were recorded.
Furthermore, when compared to January 2025, last month's achievement also grew by 3.74 percent.
In total, during the first two months of 2025, sales of new motorcycles in the country have reached 1,141,578 units.
On the other hand, this excellent achievement was not only in the domestic market. It was also felt in exports last month.
In February 2025, AISI recorded new motorcycle sales at the level of 43,899 units. Skyrocketing by about 14.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
Looking at the various achievements above, they are considered very good. Considering that at the beginning of the year, the new two-wheeled vehicle market was sluggish.
For your information, new motorcycle sales at the beginning of 2025 were corrected due to the proposed implementation of a 12 percent VAT (Value Added Tax).
Additionally, there was the issue of implementing a surcharge on PKB (Motor Vehicle Tax) and BBNKB (Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee).
This caused the public to postpone purchases, especially for two-wheeled vehicles. It had a negative impact on the automotive sector.
However, the government then provided clarification regarding some of the new rules above. For example, the 12 percent VAT only applies to certain vehicles, such as large-engine motorcycles (moge).
Then, several regions provided relaxation for the PKB and BBNKB surcharges. Some postponed or did not implement them at all.
“There are already 25 provinces that have implemented the PKB and BBNKB surcharge relaxation. So it is hoped that this will maintain the growth of the automotive sector,” said Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE, quoted from Antara some time ago.
The impact of the decision above is starting to be felt. People are willing to spend their money on two-wheeled vehicles.
As a result, new motorcycle sales in February 2025 achieved quite satisfactory results. There was even an increase compared to January 2025.
For your information, Honda motorcycle sales from January to February 2025 are said to have surpassed 850 thousand.
