AISI is still awaiting the implementation of tax relaxation to determine the new motorcycle sales target for 2025.

KatadataOTO – AISI (Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association) is not yet willing to release a target for new motorcycle sales in 2025. This is related to a number of policies that are still changing.
One of them is the implementation of the surcharge on PKB (Motor Vehicle Tax) and BBNKB (Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee) in the country.
Several regions have indeed decided to provide relaxation or even not implement the above policy at all.
However, the leniency on the implementation of the BBNKB and PKB surcharge in several regions is only temporary. Some are even set to end at the end of March 2025.
Therefore, they are not yet willing to state what target has been set for new motorcycle sales this year.
“Actually, last year we already released a figure of 6.4 million to 6.7 million units. However, that figure has not yet taken into account the impact of the surcharge,” said Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Division of AISI, to KatadataOTO some time ago.
Sigit explained that AISI will monitor the extent of the implementation of the PKB and BBNKB surcharge after Lebaran 2025 to see whether there will be changes in several regions or not.
That way, they can determine the new motorcycle sales figure that the association truly wants to achieve.
“We are discussing with the relevant government whether they will continue to postpone or increase the surcharge,” continued Sigit.
He further stated that they are still discussing the new motorcycle sales figures for 2025.
On the other hand, Sigit admitted there are several suggestions for regions whose surcharge relaxation will end after Lebaran.
“At most, it will be postponed (the surcharge implementation) or the increase will be gradual. For now, those are the only two solutions,” concluded Sigit.
For your information, the implementation of the BBNKB and PKB surcharge significantly affects new motorcycle sales in the country.
Because this one rule causes the price of new two-wheeled vehicles to increase quite high. Starting from hundreds of thousands or even millions, depending on the model.
Automatically, the costs that must be borne by the public become greater. Making consumers postpone their purchase or choose to buy a used motorcycle.
Therefore, AISI hopes the surcharge relaxation will be granted again to boost the two-wheeled vehicle market in the country.
