KatadataOTO – The new motorcycle market in Indonesia is still sluggish. It can even be said to be far from the expectations of many parties.
This situation apparently not only impacts two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers in the country.
But modification workshops in the country are also feeling the effects of the market's unfavorable situation.
“It definitely has a huge impact, the modification trend has eventually declined, although there are a few, it's not as many as last year,” said Yusa, owner of the 902 Garage workshop, to KatadataOTO in Cinere, South Jakarta, on Saturday (16/08).
Yusa stated that the decline in the new motorcycle market has forced him to find ways to survive. Such as abandoning their ideals in the world of modification.
Because usually, 902 Garage mostly works on sport bikes. But now they are targeting more automatic scooters.
Starting from the Yamaha Aerox, Honda ADV 160 to the PCX 160. Yusa believes that these products have more enthusiasts and are more numerous in the country.
“The important thing is just to survive, thank God we can still fight. The workshop must not close, it must survive and activities must continue,” he continued.
He further explained that if they stick to their ideals of modifying sport bikes, they will not be able to survive.
Therefore, the owner of 902 Garage chose to find another way to keep his business running.
“That's why we just follow the trend, whichever motorcycle is selling well, we just go for it,” Yusa affirmed.
He explained that the difficult situation they are facing has been going on for the past year.
In fact, Yusa admitted to experiencing a significant drop in turnover, reaching 50 percent compared to previous years.
“Yes, that's why it has a huge impact, just being able to survive (now) is a blessing, really,” he concluded.
As a reminder, the distribution of new motorcycles from factory to dealer (wholesales) in July 2025 reached 587,049 units.
This figure jumped by 15.25 percent compared to June 2025, which only recorded a figure of 509,326 units.
However, new motorcycle wholesales in July 2025 saw a decrease of about 1.97 percent compared to July 2024, as last year it recorded 598,901 units.
Meanwhile, cumulatively from January to July 2025, 3,692,048 units have been sent from factories to dealers.
It should be noted that the figure above is down by about 2.07 percent compared to last year's achievement of 3,769,901 units.
