KatadataOTO – New motorcycle wholesales in Indonesia show unsatisfactory performance. Especially in March or after Lebaran 2025.
According to data on the official website of AISI (Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association), the new two-wheeled vehicle market declined last month.
In March 2025, the domestic market only recorded 541,684 motorcycles sent from factories to dealers, or wholesales.
This number is a correction of 6.8 percent compared to February 2025. Because the previous month, it reached 581,277 vehicles.
Meanwhile, when compared to March 2024 or YoY (Year on Year), new motorcycle wholesales last month also fell by about 7.2 percent.
For your information, in the same period last year, the two-wheeled vehicle market was at the level of 583,747 units.
In total, then new motorcycle wholesales throughout the first three months of 2025 successfully recorded 1,683,262 units.
On the other hand, different results were shown for the export market. In March 2025, it reached 49,998 units, becoming the highest this year.
In terms of acquisition, there was an increase of 13.8 percent. Because in February 2025, it only recorded 43,899 units.
If calculated overall, new motorcycle wholesales for the export market from January to March 2025 successfully reached 134,775 units.
As a reminder, new motorcycle sales were predicted to increase last month. Because of the Lebaran 2025 momentum.
AISI assessed that many people would spend their money on new two-wheeled vehicles during the Muslim holiday.
“Usually, the increase is two weeks before and after Lebaran,” said Sigit Kumala, Head of the Commercial Division of AISI, to KatadataOTO some time ago.
Sigit explained that this phenomenon brings a blessing to the two-wheeled vehicle industry. Because new motorcycle sales can skyrocket during the holiday.
AISI itself has not yet released retail sales data for new motorcycles in the country. They only release sales data from factories to dealers, or Wholesales.
In fact, the number obtained is quite large. It's a breath of fresh air for manufacturers amid unstable economic conditions.
“In previous years, the (increase in new motorcycle sales) was around five to seven percent,” Sigit continued.
However, AISI's prediction seems to be slightly off. Because new motorcycle wholesales dropped in the third month of 2025.
