Yamaha hopes for a revision of tax regulations, especially for affordable motorcycles, to keep them accessible to the public.
KatadataOTO – PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) has responded to the new government policy regarding motor vehicle taxes. The manufacturer, symbolized by the tuning fork, hopes for a revision.
As a reminder, the government has formalized a new rule for a 12 percent tax for luxury goods. In addition, there is also a tax surcharge for every region outside of Jakarta.
“The surcharge is finally (official) although there was a delay, hopefully it can be further evaluated for the industry. Because these are people's motorcycles, it would be a pity if they become too expensive,” said Sutarya, Senior Marketing Director of YIMM in the Sentul area, Bogor, West Java (15/01).
Furthermore, regarding the 12 percent tax that will increase the price of big bikes (moge), Yamaha is not concerned. This is because that vehicle segment is different from the people's motorcycles (small cc).
“So, the wealthy will still buy if they want to. But we are confident the government will protect the industry, helping the automotive industry,” Sutarya then explained.
With the official new tax rule mentioned above, YIMM will not take any special measures. They believe they will receive attention from the government.
“There is no (target revision), we are just staying enthusiastic. Because we are sure the new president will not remain silent,” said Sutarya on the sidelines of Aerox Track Day 2025.
The tax surcharge itself is regulated through Law No. 1 of 2022. Concerning Financial Relations between the Central Government and Regional Governments.
In the law, it is explained that a surcharge is an additional tax levy, according to a certain percentage.
Then, the Regional Tax Surcharge replaces the revenue-sharing mechanism for provincial taxes (PKB and BBNKB) for regencies/cities. The purpose is none other than to ensure that revenue from taxpayers can be received by the Regency/City Government.
Although it has been officially implemented, a number of regions have decided to postpone its application. This was revealed by the Ministry of Industry some time ago.
“There are already 25 provinces that have implemented the PKB and BBNKB surcharge relaxation. So it is hoped that this will maintain the growth of the automotive sector,” said Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE, quoted from Antara.
Tax relaxation, especially for the PKB and BBNKB surcharges, is greatly needed by the public. Because it can maintain consumer purchasing power, especially in the automotive sector.
