KatadataOTO – At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Yamaha presented a unique product, namely the Tricera Proto, which is a motorcycle with three wheels.

Unlike conventional motorcycles we usually see, the Yamaha Tricera Proto has a car-like posture with two passenger seats.

The difference is, there are no doors or a roof. However, its steering control is very identical to a car's, making it a unique offering at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.

Its design is the most eye-catching, because when viewed from the front, the Yamaha Tricera looks like a Go-kart.

But if you move to the side, it becomes clear that there is only one wheel supporting the vehicle's body at the rear.

The Yamaha Tricera Proto is described as an open-roof electric motorcycle prototype, using a three-wheel steering system or 3WS.

Resembling a four-wheeled vehicle, this motorcycle is said to offer a fun riding sensation.

Its main focus, the Yamaha Tricera Proto offers excellent response when taken through sharp corners.

Just like Yamaha's other prototype lines, the Tricera Proto was developed by greatly adapting to the needs and posture of the vehicle's user.

The motorcycle is also equipped with a sound system to make the experience of driving the Yamaha Tricera Proto even more unique.

A special team was formed to develop the Yamaha Tricera Proto's audio, from the sound when the vehicle is turned on, engine sound imitation, to the sound when the turn signal is activated.

Yamaha itself is often associated with music. Therefore, Yamaha's audio specialists intend to integrate that aspect into modern mobility through the Tricera Proto.

“I chose several basic sound sources that I believed were suitable and developed them,” said Tanaka, a Yamaha audio specialist, in his official statement quoted on Thursday (06/11).

Meanwhile, Hashimoto, a specialist focused on handling the vehicle's feature sounds, also helped make the Tricera Proto feel more unique and personal.

“My job is to think about which sounds are suitable (for the Yamaha Tricera Proto) and then create them,” said Hashimoto.

There is no information yet about the production version of the Yamaha Tricera Proto. This product is now presented as a platform for Yamaha's experiments in practical and futuristic future mobility.
