KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) along with the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK), are finalizing preparations to eradicate Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) trucks.
According to them, there are three main agendas that are the government's focus in handling the ODOL truck issue.
First, by eradicating the practice of illegal levies (Pungli) that often occur in the freight transport ecosystem.
"Locations and areas that are often prone to illegal levies need to be identified comprehensively," said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, on the official National Police Traffic Corps website on Thursday (17/07).
AHY revealed that illegal levies are a concern for them in eradicating ODOL trucks in the country.
Considering that driver welfare is an important concern. This includes ensuring that wages, health insurance, and employment security are fulfilled.
In addition, AHY also highlighted the importance of deregulation and synchronization of regulations related to freight transport.
This is because the existing regulations are still overlapping and confusing for business actors.
"Therefore, simplification and integration of regulations are crucial to avoid ambiguity in the implementation and enforcement of rules in the field," AHY continued.
Finally, the aide to President Prabowo Subianto hopes that the steps that have been designed can improve the working conditions of drivers.
Furthermore, it can improve the overall safety of road users in the country.
Because the government wants to create a logistics ecosystem that is more humane, fair, and sustainable.
"We can save the drivers while also striving to improve their welfare," said AHY.
For your information, the National Police Traffic Corps has extended the socialization period for ODOL truck enforcement until the end of 2026.
The decision was made after discussions between the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police, and the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
With this extension, the socialization will not only reach the drivers in the field but also business owners and service users.
"So, based on input and aspirations from the drivers, because perhaps the socialization period was too short before, we are now extending it," said Dhani Gumelar, Head of the West Java Provincial Transportation Agency, on a separate occasion.
Not only that, fines will not be directly imposed on the drivers but on the companies that operate them. So the deterrent effect can be more pronounced.
