KatadataOTO – Recently, many videos have shown traffic police (polantas) committing illegal levies (pungli).
This has apparently drawn the attention of many parties. One of them is the Head of the Indonesian National Police (Kakorlantas) Polri Traffic Corps.
The Kakorlantas stated he would take firm action against his subordinates caught accepting bribes while on duty in the field.
"The smallest violation, even if it occurs in a remote area, we are all responsible, and I am the one who is responsible," said Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, on the official Korlantas website, Tuesday (12/08).
Agus reminded all his staff to anticipate behavior that could tarnish the police's image.
The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps even instructed high-ranking officials (PJU) and mid-ranking officers (Pamen) to carry out mitigation.
So that acts of illegal levies by rogue traffic police officers are not repeated in the future.
"These phenomena must be parallel with the cultural change we have initiated. Your smile is the main marker," he continued.
The Kakorlantas also emphasized that they want to work transparently. In addition, members are required to maintain integrity.
That way, dishonorable actions can be minimized, so as not to tarnish the good name of the institution.
"If there is a traffic police officer who asks for money or is transactional, if you can prove it, I will remove them immediately," Agus affirmed.
For your information, previously, an act of a rogue traffic police officer committing an illegal levy went viral on social media (medsos).
At that time, he was using a highway patrol (PJR) car. The officer was seen negotiating with a pickup truck driver.
Then the driver was seen handing something over to the officer who stopped him.
Not long after, the police officer returned the Driver's License (SIM) to the driver. Then both parties resumed their journey.
Based on this incident, the Kakorlantas promised to take action against all his members who are caught committing violations.
In addition, if caught accepting bribes from car or motorcycle drivers on the highway.
"There is no reason for members in the field to be emotional or take actions that violate the rules," concluded Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho.
It should be noted that police officers are prohibited from carrying out illegal levies in accordance with Government Regulation Number 2 of 2003.
Those proven to have accepted bribes face various sanctions, such as reprimands up to dismissal from the institution.
