KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Polri is getting serious about cracking down on over-dimension and over-loading (ODOL) trucks in Indonesia.
The police have started a socialization phase since Sunday (01/06). This activity will last for the next 30 days.
“This socialization phase focuses, among other things, on updating traffic intelligence data," said Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Police Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, on the official Korlantas Polri website, Monday (02/06).
Agus said that socializing the crackdown on ODOL trucks is considered important. This way, the public can understand the activity.
Especially since many drivers are still committing traffic violations.
"Especially regarding vehicle ownership data that is indicated to not comply with vehicle dimension regulations throughout Indonesia,” Agus continued.
Furthermore, the Head of the Traffic Corps stated that the socialization will also focus on public awareness. Therefore, the National Police Traffic Corps will take a persuasive approach by providing information, appeals, and direct education to drivers and vehicle owners.
By doing so, Agus hopes that owners of non-compliant vehicles will not operate them on the highways. So they no longer violate the traffic regulations in this country.
On the other hand, the socialization conducted by Korlantas is an important opportunity to build a common understanding. And to maximize active public participation.
Especially for transportation business actors, in supporting the transformation towards a safe, orderly, and sustainable transportation system.
"Moving towards a zero ODOL Indonesia is not just a law enforcement effort, but also a collective movement to maintain national traffic safety and smoothness,” Agus continued.
As a reminder, ODOL trucks often become deadly machines on Indonesian roads. Because they frequently cause traffic accidents.
In addition, the presence of ODOL trucks also causes damage to road facilities. Thus, it is considered very detrimental to many parties.
It should be noted that over-dimension is categorized as a criminal act. Therefore, the legal process goes through the general court system. Meanwhile, over-loading falls into the category of a traffic violation.
"Over-loading is a traffic violation, found in article 305. So it is indeed a different aspect," said Agus.
Agus admitted that the National Police Traffic Corps has conducted a study on ODOL truck violations on the highways.
They found that the presence of ODOL trucks brings many negative impacts. Therefore, action must be taken in the near future.
