KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is showing its seriousness in handling violations by ODOL trucks (Over Dimension Over Loading).
As part of the enforcement, the police will start with an awareness campaign first. Then they will issue warnings to violators.
Then the National Police Traffic Corps will take legal action against ODOL truck operators found on the highways.
"Law enforcement begins with an awareness campaign. There will be warnings, including for business owners to normalize their vehicles," said Inspector General of Police Drs. Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), on the official Korlantas Polri website, Wednesday (21/05).
Agus further explained that over dimension is categorized as a criminal act. Therefore, the legal process goes through the general court system.
Meanwhile, over loading is different. It falls into the category of a traffic violation.
"Over loading is a traffic violation, covered in article 305. So it is indeed a different aspect," said Agus.
Agus admitted that the National Police Traffic Corps has conducted a study on ODOL truck violations on the highways.
They found that the presence of ODOL trucks has many negative impacts. Therefore, action must be taken soon.
"After conducting a study, it was found that they are a dominant cause of accidents and casualties," Agus added.
In addition, Agus stated that ODOL truck violations also contribute to the damage of road infrastructure.
Thus, the Traffic Corps is serious about taking action against ODOL truck violators who still dare to operate on the nation's roads.
As a reminder, the National Police Traffic Corps has formed a national KDM (Over Dimension and Load) law enforcement team.
Its purpose is to prevent over dimension and over loading violations by public transport vehicles.
"We will not tolerate KDM practices that have long been detrimental to the state, endangering safety, and damaging infrastructure,” said the Head of the Traffic Corps.
He said that with the formation of this team, the crackdown on ODOL trucks will be more targeted, systematic, and firm.
Moreover, the team consists of personnel from the Regional Police Traffic Directorate, the District Police Traffic Unit, and will synergize with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Transportation Agency, and other institutions.
Finally, Agus explained that the police are always committed to achieving zero ODOL for public safety, business fairness, and infrastructure sustainability.
