KatadataOTO – The presence of large trucks in North Jakarta is quite concerning. It can threaten the safety of the surrounding community as well as other drivers.
Many accidents are caused by the presence of large trucks, trailers, and containers on Jalan Raya Cilincing, North Jakarta.
Based on this fact, the North Jakarta City Government has begun to implement restrictions on operational hours. This is to improve the safety of residents.
“This effort came about after observing the narrow and crowded conditions of Jalan Raya Cilincing, which is bustling with residents' activities,” said Hendra Hidayat, Mayor of North Jakarta, to Antara on Wednesday (19/11).
Hendra explained that large vehicles such as trucks, trailers, and containers are prohibited from passing through Jalan Raya Cilincing in the morning, from 06:00 to 09:00 WIB.
Then, in the afternoon from 16:00 to 21:00 WIB, they are also not allowed. However, the restriction does not apply on Sundays.
Hendra further revealed that Jalan Raya Cilincing is only about 15-16 meters wide. This is not proportional to the dimensions of the vehicles that frequently pass through.
Moreover, many residents travel on that route, such as taking children to school or commuting to work.
“Often, residents pass just a few centimeters from the body of a trailer truck, which is very dangerous,” he continued.
With this new policy, Hendra hopes the community can carry out their activities more peacefully. Additionally, it aims to increase the safety rate for drivers.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Hendrico Tampubolon, Head of the Transportation Agency. He stated that the restriction is still in a one-month trial phase before being evaluated.
“This has been previously communicated through sub-district and village heads to the owners of truck pools and trailer depots. The agreement is that trucks will pass during the specified hours,” said Hendrico.
If the policy runs smoothly for one month, the North Jakarta government is open to the possibility of extending the restrictions to other areas.
For your information, large trucks wishing to exit or enter a pool must wait until the restriction period is over.
For vehicles with a tonnage of 5,501 kg and above heading to the Nusantara Bonded Zone (KBN), they are directed to use alternative routes.
These include Jalan Cakung–Cilincing Raya, Jalan Akses Marunda, and Jalan Ujung Pandang. Therefore, the company's operational processes are not disrupted.
“We are regulating the rhythm of movement, not prohibiting business. We are in the middle, ensuring the safety of residents while still helping business owners to keep moving,” he concluded.
The new policy from the North Jakarta City Government was well-received by its residents, as it can provide them with a sense of security.
