KatadataOTO – Millions of people will be returning to their hometowns for Lebaran 2025. The government has also made various preparations.

One of them is by conducting a survey to understand the movement of people who want to return to their hometowns.

"The survey results show that the peak of the homecoming exodus is predicted to occur on D-3 or March 28, 2025," said Dudy Purwagandhi, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub), as reported by Antara on Saturday (15/03).

According to Dudy, there is a potential movement of up to 12.1 million people with the implementation of the WFA (Work From Anywhere) policy during the peak of the 2025 Lebaran homecoming exodus.

Meanwhile, the peak of the return flow is predicted to occur on D+5, or more precisely on April 6, 2025. With a potential movement of up to 31.49 million people.

If the movement of people during the 2025 Lebaran holiday is accumulated, it reaches 146.48 million people. This number is equivalent to 52 percent of Indonesia's total population.

Dudy has also reported the survey results above to President Prabowo Subianto. And also to the stakeholders.

Such as the DPR (House of Representatives), Ministries/agencies, regional governments, the Indonesian National Police, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector.

"We are taking this step well in advance to ensure that people can travel for the 2025 Lebaran homecoming and return safely, comfortably, and smoothly," the Minister of Transportation affirmed.

Distribution Figures of Homecoming Destinations

On the other hand, the most popular destination for the 2025 Lebaran homecoming is Central Java with 36.6 million people, equivalent to 25 percent.

East Java is in second place, with 27.4 million or 18.7 percent. West Java with 22.1 million people or 15.1 percent.

Yogyakarta is also a destination for 9.4 million or 6.4 percent of travelers this year. Lastly, North Sumatra with 6.2 million people, equivalent to 4.2 percent.

Based on the data above, the Minister of Transportation admitted that they will implement a number of policies for the 2025 Lebaran homecoming.

This is being done to anticipate a surge in travelers that has great potential to cause congestion at a number of transportation hubs and road sections, both toll roads and arterial roads.

"Some of them include implementing the WFA policy, organizing free homecoming trips, and traffic management, especially in areas with a high risk of congestion," said Dudy.

As a reminder, there will be traffic engineering during Lebaran 2025. Starting from the implementation of one-way, contraflow, to odd-even systems in several locations.

That way, people's journeys when returning to their hometowns are expected to be smoother and safer.
