KatadataOTO – A case of embezzlement of a four-wheeled vehicle belonging to a car rental entrepreneur has occurred again. This time, it happened to Ilyas Abdurahman in Tangerang on Thursday (2/1).
At that time, a Honda Brio with license plate B 2694 KZO was rented and stolen by several irresponsible individuals. Ilyas then gave chase until he found it in the Pandeglang area.
However, misfortune struck, as the embezzlement case ended in a shooting at the Kilometer 45 Rest Area of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road.
Causing Ilyas to lose his life at the hands of an Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) soldier with the initials AA and the rank of Sertu (First Sergeant), after his body was pierced by a bullet.
This case has drawn the attention of many parties. Because it is not the first in the country, a similar incident previously occurred in Pati, Central Java.
Upon investigation, it turns out that the embezzlement of rental cars like the one above has happened frequently and is something entrepreneurs must face.
“As far as I know, it happens almost every day, cases of embezzlement where the vehicle is transferred to another party,” said M. Yahya, owner of the Yahya Mister Trans Tour & Rencar’s car rental in Depok, to KatadataOTO.
He further explained that car rental entrepreneurs are usually wary of customers coming from or wanting to travel to certain areas.
Take for example the area around central Tangerang, like Ilyas's incident yesterday, all the way to Pandeglang, Banten. Then Pati, Central Java, is also in their red zone.
“Now, in the Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi) area, places like Sukabumi, Parungkuda, and Serang are areas to be wary of,” continued Yahya.
Furthermore, Yahya also avoids customers from or wanting to travel to Karawang, West Java. Then there are also Lamongan, East Java, and Palembang, South Sumatra.
“Usually, if there are customers who want to rent a car to go outside of Java Island, I don't allow it. I prefer to play it safe in the Jabodetabek area,” he asserted.
Yahya admitted that he would never serve prospective renters who come from all the areas mentioned above. Because it is considered too risky for them.
In addition, the car rental entrepreneur also only accepts customers based on recommendations from regular customers or those who have rented from him before.
Furthermore, Yahya prefers to serve orders from companies or offices. That way, he is not too worried that his car will be stolen.
